Dean Lewis, an Australian-born adult alternative singer/songwriter, creates wistful, emotionally open songs in the style of his contemporaries Lewis Capaldi, Jamie Lawson, and Ed Sheeran. He began to gain popularity in the late 2010s, and his formal full-length debut, 2019’s A Place We Knew, featured the multi-platinum-selling, multi-billion-streaming hit “Be Alright,” which gave him his first taste of international stardom. The Hardest Love, Lewis’ follow-up album from 2022, was another hit; it peaked at number four in Australia and gave birth to the moving international hit song “How Do I Say Goodbye.” Later, he collaborated with Julia Michaels on the song “In a Perfect World.” Growing up, the Sydney-born Lewis trained himself to play the guitar by copying his favorite Oasis songs and creating his own tunes. He gradually accumulated a small collection of original songs.
